When Olivia and I decided to collaborate on a photo shoot during Paris Fashion Week, I dreamt up several concepts to present some of her favorite pieces from the current fall and upcoming resort collections.
In the end, though, we decided on the simplest scenario of all. We would attempt to accurately portray what we had already been doing throughout the week while dressing for various fashion shows and parties. We would infuse the eclectic high-low assortment of clothing and accessories Olivia had brought from New York with the refinement of the exquisite pieces sent to her from French designers’ showrooms. The shoot didn’t need set decoration. The clothes themselves, artfully organized on garment racks as they had been all week, would provide their own kind of décor. A dazzling rainbow of accessories, unpacked and carefully laid out for the sake of accessibility, would be more beautiful and truer to Olivia’s style than any extravagant prop I could source. The hotel suite we shot in had become her home away from home, and felt more personal than a studio or scouted location ever could. But more importantly, we could not resist the atmospheric romance of Paris as our ultimate source of inspiration.
Olivia has been my friend and partner-in-style, as I like to call her, for many years and I have always enjoyed seeing the beauty with which she is surrounded. In a shoot that wrapped in less than four hours, I hoped to give readers of this site a glimpse into her world and capture my favorite version of Olivia, à la Parisienne.
