Like any devout chic-ette, your shoe wardrobe was built on the basics – the black “go-with-everything stiletto“, the nude, pointed toe “make-your-legs-look-miles-long” pump. Oh, and a flat here and there for good measure.

But there’s another often overlooked basic many shoe cupboards are missing; the white heel. No longer reserved for little girls and their sunday best, white shoes are an unexpected and fresh touch to spring’s geometric and colorbock trend. Not to mention an obvious (and insanely chic) choice for an all white look.

And for those of you sticking to the old adage, memorial day is only a week away.  Meaning you can order these white hot stunners now - the timing couldn’t be more perfect.

If there was one trend from the Spring/Summer 2013 runways that transcended it’s own perception, it was ruffles. Typically known for their frilly girly-ness – such as the kind one would perhaps find on a five year olds party dress – the ruffle had a major facelift, taking on a more structured, architectural shape. The result: a modern and fresh feel you’d be hard pressed to find on any five year old’s dress.

As with any statement making look, there are some things to keep in mind when rocking this trend. In general, accessories should be keep to a minimum; ruffles like these are their own accessories. Always keep balance and proportion in mind, both in fit and in what you choose to pair the trend with. Tailoring is a must for petite frames to achieve the perfect fit needed, and avoid being swallowed by these statuesque ruffles.

When it comes to specific pieces, it can be tricky to choose the proper accompanying item.  We’ve put together a few examples – and some styling tips – to guide you:

We take note when big consumer brand executives leap out on their own; so, when fêted J.Crew alum, Marissa Webb, debuted her S/S13 collection, we were in the front row, with high expectations.

Webb studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Upon completing her degree, she joined J.Crew and spent the next twelve years perfecting her skills with the retail giant – most recently as the Head of Womenswear and Apparel Design.

For her debut collection, Webb successfully found the equilibrium between free flowing, feminine softness, and tailored, masculine architecture. The collection is unquestionably made for a certain type of woman – one who is confident, unique and has a strong sense of personal style. Her clothes are unadorned and straightforward, yet particularly commanding in conveying confidence. For Spring/Summer 2013 she gives her audience a blend of mischievous leather, dramatic prints, and lively sequence.

Apart from the striking aureolin neon pieces, Webb presents a number of black and white separates that are easy to repeat-wear. One of our favorites in this collection are slim fit “Binta” leather moto shorts with side welt pockets and topstitch detail, paired with a whimsical, soft and sheer, snow white blouse. Another standout is the silk georgette ”Ada” blouse  with a double sash and french seams. The “Genevieve” jacket, made of Italian cotton linen, with a convertible shoulder peplum, also make our top pick list.

Marissa Webb presents a collection that is unforced, natural, and particularly easy to wear. The color codes she chose to work with are easily transferrable for Fall. We are thrilled about the launch of her new on-line shop and eager to see what she will be showing in the seasons to come.

In the dark ages, our inner leather lover had to be stowed away at the sight of Spring’s first bud. Only allowed to run free for two seasons, she tried her hardest to get the most out of her short time in the spotlight. Year after year, she grew weaker as the days grew longer, sensing that time was running out. Inevitably, her last day came – often she never even realized that it was her last. In darkness she sat, praying for an early fall – fearing an indian summer – waiting to once again be free. Until now.

We know black and white is huge for spring – but if that seems too harsh a contrast for you, gunmetal and white is your answer. There’s something very clean and minimalistic about the pairing; if you choose a metallic gunmetal finish, it becomes almost futuristic. In a matte finish, it has a very Calvin Klein-esque vibe.

Some of our favorites: we love Viktor & Rolf’s shimmering floor length skirt – paired with a cropped bralet tank, it’s perfect for a summer evening. We’ve shown you how to ensure you’re hair doesn’t go haywire, but there’s nothing quite like the crimp, so to say, that rain can put in your style. Inevitably, when you’ve put together the perfect outfit for your job interview, first date, or just about any important event, it will – of course – rain. You’re faced with the age-old battle of fashion vs. function. On the one hand, nothing is worse than squishy shoes and damp clothing. On the other, rubber boots and nylon jackets don’t exactly scream ‘chic’.   And while purse-size umbrellas are a must in all handbags for surprise downpours, they don’t compare to full size in terms of protection.

Case in point: A purse-size umbrella is no match for the style-saver Olivia carries.

Well, it seems the battle is over and the fashion gods have smiled down on us; the latest crop of rainy day attire is so swoon-worthy, you won’t want to save it for a rainy day. If fact, you may just find yourself doing a rain dance.

Peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper, Kermit and Miss Piggy; there are some things that are made for each other – they just go together.

In fashion, it’s often the unexpected that make the best pairs – like stripes and florals, or leather and chiffon. The mix of yellow, grey and white is one of those such pairings. Quickly becoming one of our favorites, there’s something so fresh about this particular combination. Spring-like without being too sweet, minimal without being too stark, this utterly chic look is one to do head to toe.
