Designer to Watch: Adriana Castro

Born and raised in Colombia, young accessories designer Adriana Castro has been providing her strong celebrity following as well as everyday fashionistas around the world the ability to carry her luxurious works of art with them everyday since her initial debut back in 2007.

With an inspiration that began when Castro was a child at her father’s crocodile farm, she took her passion for design and exotic skins and pushed to pursue her dream of becoming an accessories designer by conquering a Bachelors degree in economics from Purdue and studying accessory design at the Art Institute at Miami International University. From there, she launched her first line “amazonia” which brought immediate attention from the press and since then she has been busy collecting accolades ever since. From the Handbago Award for “Best Designer of the Year”, being nominated four times for The Fashion Group International Rising Star Award, and growing her business to now being sold in some of the world’s leading departments stores (from New York City to Hong Kong), it seems like her inspirational career is growing at a successfully rapid pace.
When it comes to each of her amazon inspired collections, Castro provides a large variety of different shapes and sizes giving everyone something to love. There are oversized clutches and petite evening bags as well as crossbody, hobos, satchels and totes, and no matter which silhouette is your favorite, the love and dedication that goes into the production of these pristine bags remains at the highest quality no matter what. Coming in four different finishes – glazed, matte, metallic and stone wash – the main thread that keeps these products distinctly “Adriana Castro” is the use of exotic skins such as crocodile, python, ostrich and stingray to create luxurious pieces that are entirely ornate and all their own. Another characteristic that often finds itself dancing across Castro’s collections is her unique ability to seamlessly splice together colors and textures. Whether in splashes of mint and purple, camouflage prints, shining metallics or big bold colors of red and electric blue, no matter which one you find to be your favorite, you’re bound to stand out for all of the right reasons.
Last but not least, one of the chicest parts about Adriana Castro’s brand goes far beyond the stunning designs and charismatic aesthetic they’ve come to embody. When you purchase a handbag it immediately contributes to repopulating the caiman species creating a sustainable use program where with every bag sold another animal is bred into wildlife. Having the ability to create products that are high-fashion, fully functional as well as self sustaining seems almost impossible and yet Adriana Castro makes it seem supremely effortless.
