Designers To Watch: Paige Novick

By the time New Yorker Paige Novick launched her luxe costume jewelery line in 2008, she was already something of a fashion connessieur – not that she would say so herself. The Sorbonne graduate originally worked in trend forecasting but soon found herself interning with Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel. From there, she started finding her own inspirations for accessories – namely in the Art History she was surrounded by while studying in Paris. She once said that jewely was in her DNA (her mom is a fine jeweler), and she woke up one day thinking statement jewelry was what she wanted to make.

Novick quickly became known for her bold, structural costume jewellery. Think orange an orange stone pendant, surrounded by diamonds on a chunky gold chain, or architectural cage-shaped rings. Her unusual, feminine-cross-feisty gems were soon seen on the likes of Leighton Meester and Anne Hathaway, and selling in luxe retailers all over the world.

But big and geometric isn’t all Novick can do. In 2013, she launched her PHYNE by Paige Novick collection, over 100 pieces of fine jewelry. The collection still boasts the opulence of diamonds, her penchant for black metal and signature quirky touches, but has a simple, fuss-free elegance to it. Timeless design meets relevance. “I saw an opportunity in creating everyday, versatile jewelry that would allow the self-purchasing woman to individualize her look in an effortless way,” Novick said of her decision to launch PHYNE. We love the gold, three-tiered cuff, with diamonds lining triangular prisms. Elegant, but unique. Just like the woman herself.
