Fall 2012 London Fashion Week: Burberry Prorsum

- By Andrea Mestrovic -

Burberry Prorsum Autumn/Winter 2012 show was truly an amalgamation of fine emotion. Tanzania born Herieth Paul opened the show wearing a momentous cotton tweed trench coat in tea-stained cream and grey, with muted daffodil bow belt, exterior bulbous pockets at hips, and an original ascot cap.  It shortly became apparent why Christopher Bailey chose this piece to begin his story: dimension.-

In what followed, Bailey’s Victorianisms complete with pleats, trumpet folds, abounding ruffles, and his instauration of voluminous hips juxtaposed with tiny waists, threw the power back to feminine form and beauty in curvature.  He modernized these beloved shapes by pairing trumpet skirts with bomber jackets and villainous, studded leather gloves in an array of calm colors.  And if things could even get any more exciting, Bailey makes reference to one of Fall’s reoccurring and forever entertaining trends – the fringe – with a cocktail dress in an untidy heap of fringe and lace.
-
Although outnumbered on the runway, the men were equally influential in a line-up of rich velvet suites, tapered trousers and tweed separates in shades of emerald green to wheat and taupe.  The men’s A/W 2012 collection is prideful and heavily accessorized, very much complimentary to its counterpart.
