By now, we are all accustomed to wearing sunscreen on a daily basis – thanks to SPF additions to many of our every-day products. However, if you’re not applying it correctily, you’re not getting the protection you need. It’s very important to let sunscreen fully absorb into your skin prior to sun exposure, so that it’s effective.
Apply it on your whole body before you dress – yes, even if you’re just running errands; just because you’re not at the beach, doesn’t mean you can skip sun protection! Not only will it be fully absorbed by the time you are ready to go, but you’ll also be covered if your clothing shifts during the day. If you’re beach-bound, your first application should be prior to donning that itty-bitty bikini (at least 30 minutes before you hit the sand). Be diligent with your next applications; if you apply SPF to your front and then roll over onto your stomach so a friend can do your back, the sunscreen you’ve just applied will be rubbed right off by the friction of your skin against your beach towel. Finally, choose one with an SPF of 15 or higher that offers broad-spectrum protection.
