It is a known fact, that no matter how much time you allot yourself in the morning, you will still end up frantically rushing out the door. The cause, I’ve discovered, is what is known as multiple outfit changes. Signs include: rummaging through drawers and/or the pile of clothes on the floor, shoes being flung across the room, and various accessories being strewn about in varying states of upheaval. Beware the flying hanger.
In order to begin your day without several minor panic attacks, I give you monochromatic dressing: something that will save you those precious a.m. minutes by allowing you to choose an outfit in a flash. It’s something many seem to interpret as ‘dressing head to toe in the same color’, and therefore… boring. Well, many of you are…wrong.
Monochromatic dressing is pairing varying shades of the same color together,
as Olivia has done here. A navy blue with a sky blue with a side of royal blue, a khaki with a camel and a dash of chocolate; it can be done with almost any color and any type of clothing. The result is an extremely polished, chic and quite slimming approach to dressing. Take slimming one step further by wearing a high-waist flare pant, hemmed to fall over your heels, like you see on Olivia. Pair different textures and fabrics within the same color family to create an even chicer look (learn how by reading last week’s I Want What She’s Wearing). When choosing accessories, go for complimenting, or even a pop of color.
