The polished and cool city-girl that Amy Smilovic loves to dress was alive and well for Tibi’s Spring 2014 collection as she showed all of us that sometimes in life, it should be about the finer details. By leveraging precise construction combined with a polynesian urban twist, she proved that just because a collection isn’t saturated by excess doesn’t make it any less extravagant.
With a neutral palette setting the tone, natural fibers were an easy follow-up as cottons, linens, silks and leathers were prominently displayed throughout the new collection. City staples like vests and the trench coat provided structure while breezy silks were warped into jumpsuits and culottes providing beautiful movement from one look to the next. While mid-sections peeked through monochromatic ensembles that included hip riding cigarette trousers with cropped blouses, sheer mesh panels also helped to show a little skin in full skirts and 3/4 sleeved blouses.
There were certainly nods at the hinted jungle theme as cargo jackets shown in black and white were made chic as they laid over dresses and cropped blouses like the best boyfriend blazer in your closet. Likewise, hints of a palm tree print helped to round out the island inspiration while remaining subtle enough to slide seamlessly into the rest of the collection.
Accessories were certainly not a secondary thought to an already stunning collection, but instead emphasized and assisted in completing each ensemble without over-whelming in the slightest. The island influence continued here as “baseball caps” and envelope clutches were made from perfectly pieced together wood, meanwhile decadence hit below the ankle as leather slip on’s had their wedged heels encrusted with intricate beading.
