Ah, the tassel necklace. At first glance, it appears to be quiet simple; not really what one may call a statement piece. Upon further inspection, however, the many facets of the tassel are revealed, demanding we remember things aren’t always as they appear.
The first and most obvious reference is the “tassel as bohemian”. As in the “empire-waist-white-linen-dress-barefoot in St. Barth” sort of tassel. Also gaining popularity on the other side of the bohemian spectrum: the very “tortured-artist-in-black-leather-a-la-Saint-Laurent-spring-2013″ necklace.
Of course there is the “channeling 1920s glam tassel”. Art Deco inspired, Fitzgerald-esque types that must be worn with a plunging neckline or a drop-waist.
Finally, there are the “I raided a fabric store/took these from the curtains at my parents house” tassels which are very prevalent amongst the über creative DIY-ers. Truly conversation pieces, the DIY tassel can be as simple – or as intricate – as one likes. The next wave of tassel may very well lie in their hands.
