Shopping For: Underpinnings

Vintage Lingerie Ad, Circa 1956

Underware as outerwear is not a new concept (hello Madonna at one point or another, in every one of her many reinventions; Lady Gaga, in just about everything).  In recent years, however, there are those that may have played it a bit fast and loose in the common decency arena.   Admittedly, incorporating undergarments with your every day wardrobe can be like walking a tightrope of sorts.  So much so, that many simply shy away from even trying, rather than potentially looking like they forgot to get dressed.  This is not a look that one can master by trial and error- at least not in public.  Before anything else, please, I beg you, the “whale tale” must not EVER make an appearance.  You must swear.  On Chanel.

“Excuse me miss, but your bra is showing”
Think of this look, not as ‘showing lingerie’, but instead as addional layering pieces.  If you have the mindset that you’ll be showing off your bra, it’ll be more difficult to incorporate this look.

Two sheers do not always make a solid
In last week’s ‘How to Rock”, we focused on getting the sheer look just right.   You can pair a sheer with a sheer, but  always be sure to double, even triple check that there aren’t any exposure faux pas.
