Sweets for International Women’s Day

- By Teresa Greenfeld -

We so often take for granted what we consider the ‘givens’ in our lives – like our education, and forget that in many parts of the world, education is far from a ‘given’.

In honor of International Women’s Day, Olivia and all of us at OliviaPalermo.com, have joined AHAlife in their efforts to improve women’s lives through education.  Olivia has curated a boutique for the shopping destination that includes her favorite treats from Baking for Good, who will donate 15 percent of the profits to benefit Pencils of Promise, a non-profit organization that builds schools in developing countries.   With that 15 percent, Pencils of Promise will build a dormitory for a girls school in Laos that will house 450 young women between the ages of 13 and 17.

Olivia is not alone in her efforts; Ivanka Trump and life-long friend and film producer Wendi Deng Murdoch are also doing their part.  The two have collaborated on a limited edition bracelet for Trump’s jewelry line, inspired by Murdoch’s new movie “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan”.  The film, a story of enduring female friendship, follows two sets of friends, the first in 19th century China and the second in modern Shanghai, depicts a bond that surpasses both distance and vicissitude.  The bracelet, a resin cuff with an art-deco fan, is accented in diamonds and 18k white gold, and features an engraved Chinese character meaning friendship.  A portion of its proceeds will benefit the United Nations Foundation Girl Up, a campaign that gives girls the opportunity to become global leaders and raise awareness and funds for United Nations programs that help adolescent girls from all over the world.
