It seems as though almost every season metallics are touted as the next season’s big trend. And while this is not without good reason, how many times can something be proclaimed as the next big trend? At least once more, if New York’s fall 2012 shows are any indication.
There was an apparent twist, however, to metallic’s long standing, trend-topping run: liquid metallics. Fluid, almost molten-like metallics made their presence known, in the form of dresses and skirts, shoes and bags – and everything in between. From Marchesa’s gold draped number to Tibi’s green pencil skirt, fall was reminiscent of a time where lamé reigned supreme. Now, I know the thought of ‘lamé’ typically causes a shudder and/or borderline violent reaction, but perhaps that’s because we only recall the bad, the worse, and the very hideous. For fall, there is only the good, the better, and the absolutely stunning. Done in everything from leather to silk, there is a liquid metallic out there for everyone and every occasion.
